Alcohol Treatment Clinics
If an alcoholic is unwilling to seek help, is there any way to get him or her into treatment?
Alcoholism can be a very harrowing experience for any family. This can be exceptionally difficult if the affected doesn’t want to get treatment. Many people don’t believe that they actually have a problem with alcohol even when confronted by their loved ones. This can make for a very delicate situation.
There are no legal means to force someone into a residential treatment center if they are not willing to go. It has to be a matter of talking them into getting the help that they need in order to regain their health. It’s a delicate balance of showing that you care about the person without making them feel like they are being attacked.
One method that has been shown to work is to have an intervention. An intervention is a get together of family and friends to confront, in a caring way, the person that is having issues with their drinking. It’s very important to make it clear that everyone is only there because they want the person to get better. At first they may seem argumentative or even angry. No matter what the patient says it’s important for everyone involved to keep a level head about them. It’s not going to be good for anyone if it turns into a yelling match. That wouldn’t get them any closer to getting into an alcoholism treatment center.
It’s not a good idea to just stage an intervention though without some form of clinical help with the situation. There must be a plan in place if the alcoholic agrees to put themselves into a alcoholism treatment center. Talk to one of the counselors at a center and they will help you with the steps that will be necessary to get them the help that they need. Many of these residential treatment center facilities will have a person that will come out for you and lead things at the intervention.
A intervention may not be the right method for some people though. There are those that will always just see that they are being attacked, and they may hold on to anger after the event even if they end up realizing that things were for the best. In these instances it’s a good idea for friends and families to set up situations where they can have a one on one conversation with the affected. These types of individuals may prefer the environment of a holistic treatment center instead.
A holistic treatment center focuses on the whole of the body. They have programs that deal with the mind, the body, and the spirit. These facilities offer yoga and artistic endeavors that will help the person get themselves centered in their lives. This may fit in better with the lifestyles of some addicted persons. This may make it easier to talk someone into getting help since it’s not the traditional structure style of the average twelve step program.
